After weddings, corporate meetings and movie trailer launch in the metaverse, it is the turn of fashion shows to do digital. The first ever metaverse fashion week kicked off on March 24th with the presence of some of the most iconic fashion brands such as Roberto Cavalli, Etro, Tommy Hilfiger, Dolce & Gabbana and Rihanna’s Met Gala couturier, to name a few.

The 4-day event (March 24th-28th) curated by London based shopping giant, Selfridges was showcased on the virtual platform Decentraland. Fashion enthusiasts got to experience digital shopping, fashion displays and fashion parties.

While there were runway events of Perry Ellis, Roberto Cavalli and Tommy Hilfiger, Italian luxury footwear and fashion designer, Giuseppe Zanotti reportedly put up his limited edition of 1,000 NFTs of Cobra sneakers that could be purchased and worn by user avatars.

Selfridges unveiled its metaverse retail store displaying exclusive NFTs by Spanish fashion designer Paco Rabanne, and Fondation Vasarely in-situ. The digital works of Paco Rabanne’s first 12 ‘Unwearable’ dresses that were created way back in 1966, were put up for users.

Dolce & Gabbana showcased several interesting designs using feline models while fashion house Etro unveiled its Liquid Paisley collection. Taking metaverse fashion to a whole new level, luxury watch retailer, Jacob & Co unveiled its new collection of 8 watches named Astronomica Metaverso.

Sophia The Robot was another major highlight of the event as users clicked selfies and danced with her. A special digital after-party was also hosted by Italian luxe brand, Hogan.

The gala event was as close to reality as possible with fashion aficionados witnessing the best of brands and fashion from the comfort of their homes. For all those who always wished to be in the front row of an elite fashion event, this was a dream come true.
